UCDPHSA is proud to offer Interactive Workshops to our attendees on Sunday October 11th, 2015. There will be a myriad of interactive workshops exclusively on Sunday that will range from learning essential suture techniques to handling animals.
The interactive workshops are limited, due to lack of space, equipment, and animals and we require prior registration to them. Please NOTE: the interactive workshops are the ONLY workshops that you need to register for. All other workshops, over 350, are open to all attendees with general admissions, group tickets, and all-inclusive packages.

Registration Process:
Registration is open to first come, first served and very limited and registered Attendees (all ticket types). We require $1 for each to cover the materials being used in the workshops. Please note that there is no refund, no transfers, and no exchange.
Vet Med Labs 2015
- Beef Cattle Handling: Take this chance to practice handling beef cattle through a mechanical chute and learn how to herd them into different corrals.
- Sheep Handling: Take this opportunity to practice handling sheep through flipping and learning about herd behavior to live a day as a sheep dog.
- Equine Medicine: The lab will explore different aspects of equine medicine such as behavior, handling and physical examination. Activities will include working through a complete physical examination of the horse, deciphering the mannerisms and learning basic handling principles.
- Lab Animal Handling: The lab will explore different aspects of lab animal medicine such as handling, gavage feeding and physical examinations. Students will learn how to handle mice and learn about their role in research.
- Aquatic Animal Medicine: In this lab, students will have a chance to learn and perform a detailed exam and diagnostics (including tissue sampling and necropsy) on fish.
- Small Animal Emergency: Using animal models and robotics, student will be performing emergency and critical care techniques such as Canine CPR and bandaging. Students will learn different cardiac codes and how to perform CPR according to the latest guidelines.
- Foreign Disease Outbreak: Take this opportunity to learn about bird health, preventative medicine, and infectious disease using chickens as the animal models. Students will learn how to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), take biological samples, and practice humane handling. Learn about the role of a veterinarian in public health and disease outbreaks.
- Exotic Mammal Medicine: Take this opportunity to learn how to handle various kinds of exotic mammals seen in private practice. You will learn how to towel wrap for physical examination, nail trims, and see a demonstration of a blood draw.
- Veterinary Nutrition: Take this opportunity to learn about an important veterinary specialty taught by a world renowned expert. Learn about food label marketing, fiber diets, and how to decipher a raw food diet. Students will be introduced to some of the common nutrition procedures to help enhance their knowledge and spark interest.
- Large Animal Suturing: This lab will cover basic sterile techniques, instrument manipulation, and various suture patterns. Students will have a chance to try several different and challenging patterns commonly used in veterinary medicine on realistic surgical pads and pigs feet.
- Veterinary Pathology: In this lab, students will have a chance to observe the steps taken to perform a post-mortem exam and observe any lesions found. Sample collection, techniques, and equipment will be discussed. Students will learn how to examine normal and abnormal anatomy of sample specimens.
Logistics
1. Register for the wet lab. You can only register for one wet lab, since all of vet med wet labs overlap. You will only miss one vet med workshop as the labs happen early in the day.
2. Print your ticket and have official ID.
3. Bring your ticket, ID and Waiver Form to Attendee Registration on Sunday October 11, 2015 from 7am-8:15am to recieve a wrist band. NOTE: No wristbands will be handed out at any other time.
4. Due to Safety Concerns, you must be OVER 18 to participate in interactive workshops. (Even with Legal guardian permission, you must be over 18)
