Dr. Maria Sabio-Solacito, used to refer to herself as a misfit. Born and raised in the Philippines, she grew up feeling that she never quite fit in. Born into a family of lawyers, she decided to become a veterinarian just to be different. After graduating from the University of the Philippines, she took on several jobs but never seem to find her rightful place. In 1999, she migrated to Los Angeles and worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She later earned her US veterinary license and completed clinical training at Purdue University in Indiana. Currently, she serves as a shelter veterinarian for the nation's largest animal control agency. It is clear to see the passion and optimism in Dr. Solacito’s eyes when she talks about her job, her vision and her hopes for veterinarians in animal sheltering. Dr. Aziz is a shelter veterinarian currently completing her residency with the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. She went to Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to obtain her DVM degree where she participated in multiple international dog welfare and population control projects in Nepal and Bhutan. Leadership is an important part of her role as a shelter veterinarian and she truly believes that having the qualities of a good leader are essential for all veterinarians. In the United States, there are less than 100 board-certified veterinary nutritionists. Not to be confused with animal nutritionists, veterinary nutritionists are required to do a residency to learn the art and science of nutrition. Veterinary nutritionists are responsible in sourcing specific food ingredients, making sure your pet gets a balanced diet from a variety of sources, and treat specific diseases through nutrition. Dr. Georgina Marquez is a small animal practitioner who specializes in internal medicine. She was born in Mexico and attended the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for veterinary school. She completed her residency in internal medicine at UC Davis and currently practices in Southern California for the California Veterinary Specialists (CVS) Angel Care Cancer Center. Dr. Marquez is a true master of her craft and her passion for science, animals and solving difficult cases is what motivates her to be the best veterinarian she can be.
